Educator

My first profession is education. On a resume it will appear that I started my education career as a classroom teacher in 1979. In actuality, I've been a teacher all of my life, and that likely will not stop.

I take a teaching/mentoring approach to many facets of my life, and I've certainly transferred that approach into my writing/publishing world. I enjoy supporting and helping authors move forward in their careers about as much as I enjoyed working with children and young adults to help them learn and discover the world.

My professional work in education goes something like this:

10 years as a middle school classroom teacher
6 years as a high school classroom teacher
1 year as a substitute teacher
4 years as an education program coordinator/director
12 years of working with an education-focused non-profit organization

Beyond that list, I've provided professional development (workshops, trainings, conference presentations, keynote addresses, consulting and technical assistance) to teachers and administrators, and to writers and aspiring authors alike.
